Agencies vs radio stations? Agencies!
You need representation to make it in the world of voiceovers. An agent will market your voice to advertising agencies across the country on your behalf, not for free, but for a fee. This means you don’t have to pound the pavement!!! The average fee is 10-20% of your earnings... that’s how they make money from you.
If a potential agency/agent asks you for upfront fees be careful! Legitimate agencies will not ask for payment up front.
The radio stations already have voice talent, sometimes you can get lucky and a Production Director or “PD” will like you and get you an occasional gig on the radio. Trust me; the money is made on the agency level. You can earn from $175 in Tampa to $1,500 in Orlando for a commercial, depending on the client and where the radio campaign is airing.
You may be asking yourself local or national? With National exposure you should always make more. If you want a lucrative way to earn money while having fun in some of the most high-tech studios in the country, Voiceovers may be in your future.
